(From the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology)
An unsuccessful attempt was made to induce malignant tumors by methylcholanthrene in the cervices and vaginas of rabbits and dogs. The vaginas of rabbits were exposed to the carcinogen for as long as 76 weeks. The uterine cervices of the dogs were exposed to the same substance for as long as 190 weeks. Apparently, the genital tracts of these animals are very resistant to methylcholanthrene. Since no tumors were produced, it was impossible to study the histogenetic evolution of artificially produced tumors.
