Amblystoma punctatum embryos reared in a 1 mg. per cent aqueous solution of the crystals of Lathyrus odorata developed tumors of the notochord. The histologic appearance of these tumors is described. Two possible mechanisms of pathogenesis of these lesions are discussed. The suggestion is made that these tumors arise as a consequence either of a focal degeneration of the notochord sheath, leading to secondary proliferative ecchordoses or prolapses, or of a direct stimulation to proliferation of the notochordal cells.
