An Attempt To "Block" Sources of Methyl Groups in the Therapy of Mouse Leukemia*

Samuel S. Morrison and George M. Higgins

( Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation,{dagger} Rochester, Minn.)

1. Clinical and experimental evidence suggests that the methyl group performs a significant function in the formation of leukocytes.
2. Leukemia in mice was significantly inhibited by use of a combination of agents theoretically antagonistic to the important methyl-group reactants.
3. These antagonists are A-methopterin, formamide (possibly), ethionine, and triethylcholine.

* Abridgment of thesis submitted by Dr. Morrison to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Minnesota in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Pediatrics.

{dagger} The Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minnesota, is a part of the Graduate School of the University of Minnesota.

Received 4/11/55.
