The effect of thioTEPA, nitrogen mustard, and chloroquine mustard, given systemically or locally, upon the histological changes and the tensile strength of standard wounds in rats has been demonstrated. Systemically, nitrogen mustard in toxic doses affects wound healing in proportion to the amount of drug given. ThioTEPA, 0.8 mg/kg intravenously, and chloroquine mustard, 4 mg/kg intramuscularly, seem to have no significant effect. Locally, thioTEPA has the greatest margin of safety.
