An Ovarian Teratocarcinoma as an Ascitic Tumor*

G. Barry Pierce, Jr., Frank J. Dixon, Jr. and Ethel L. Verney

( Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh 13, Pa.)

A teratocarcinoma of the ovary of a mouse, when converted to an ascitic form, lost its differentiated structures and became monocellular in type.

The monocellular tumor was shown to be a parietal yolk sac carcinoma. It had little or no morphogenetic propensity.

The evidence presented supports the contention that embryonal carcinoma is a stage in the development of teratocarcinomas.
