The presence of a coenzyme A-dependent system catabolizing added serum albumin has been demonstrated in a mitochondrial fraction from the transplantable Novikoff hepatoma. The tumor fraction possesses a level of activity comparable to that of normal rat liver mitochondrial preparations. The requirement for a preparative medium supplemented with nicotinamide or diphosphopyridine nucleotide for the isolation of an active mitochondrial fraction from tumor suggests either some deficiency or fragility in the particles, but the nature of this difference between hepatoma and liver is undermined.
