6-Uracil methyl sulfone (UMS) inhibits the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides by mammalian tissues. UMS is rapidly destroyed in vivo by reaction with sulfhydryl-containing compounds. During intra-arterial infusion of UMS in the dog a much larger concentration gradient was set up between the infused and contralateral limbs than that attained while infusing Evans blue. UMS did not interfere with the metabolism of orotic acid by mammalian tissues.
