A total of 95 rats have been sacrificed at various intervals following the intramuscular implantation of Walker 256 carcinoma and the plasma protein-bound hexoses, hexosamines, sialic acid, and fucose determined on the total plasma glycoprotein fraction.
All plasma protein-bound carbohydrates manifest significant elevations over normal control values, but the magnitude of the elevation and the time of its occurrence were different for the different carbohydrates.
* This investigation was supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute of Canada (N.C.I. #226) and from the Medical Research Fund of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Alberta (M.R. 205).
