Prolonged diethylstilbestrol treatment, which produces renal tumors in the male golden hamster, also produces pituitary gland enlargement and decrease of luteinizing hormone content. The LH2 level, measured by the ovarian ascorbic acid depletion method, went from an initial 6 units of LH per pituitary down to 0.2 unit after 7 months of diethylstilbestrol treatment.
