The inhibitory effects of a number of periodate-oxidation products of carbohydrates and carbohydrate derivatives were studied on various transplanted tumors in mice and on a variety of microorganisms. Many of the compounds showed striking inhibition of Ehrlich ascites and inhibition of Leukemia L1210 in mice. The compounds were not active against Sarcoma 180 and Adenocarcinoma 755 or against any of the microorganisms studied.
