It has been demonstrated that in C57BL mice a subthreshold dose (175 r x 2) of X-radiation (a) decreases the latency of lymphosarcomas induced by a leukemogenic virus (leukemogenic extract) and (b) increases the incidence of thymic lymphosarcoma. The percentage of lymphatic tumors remains the same as that produced by only the injection of the extract without irradiation. Furthermore, it has been shown that in C57BL mice irradiated (175 r x 4) and injected with bone marrow cells the leukemogenic extract produced 25% of leukemias in less than 300 days. The different implications of these findings are discussed.
