The protective effect of thyroidectomy against the induction of liver tumors by 2-aminofluorene in rats is confirmed. Evidence is presented indicating that the effect of thyroidectomy may be attributable to blockade of liver carcinogenesis at or before the stage of initiation rather than to retardation of tumor progression in such animals.
