Human cancerous serum was injected i.v. into 10-day-old chick embryos. This caused a high proportion of dead, due to the toxic effect of serum. Among the surviving embryos 25% presented alterations of the connective tissue. The observed malformations, fundamentally different from the spontaneous ones, were mainly edema, evisceration, fragility of the articulations, and abnormalities of the legs. A possible relationship between these malformations and ascorbic acid metabolism is discussed.
