In vitro studies of some aromatic nitrogen mustards have indicated that these cancer chemotherapeutic agents do not react through a carbonium ion as reported. Rather, they react via a 2-step process with the formation of a relatively stable intermediate similar to that described for the aliphatic nitrogen mustards.
