Electron microscopic studies revealed bundles of fibers in nuclei of Adenovirus type 12 (Ad. 12)-infected human amnion cells (AV-3), in nuclei of hamster cells infected in vitro with Ad. 12, and in the cytoplasm of Ad. 12-induced neoplastic cells from Syrian hamsters. These bundles of fibers react with ferritinlabeled T-antibodies obtained from Ad. 12-tumor-bearing hamsters. The bundles of fibers seen in Ad. 12-infected hamster cells and in Ad. 12-induced neoplastic cells appear to be antigenically and morphologically analogous to structures observed in Ad. 12-infected AV-3 cells. The bundles of fibers could be considered to be "viral footprints." In neoplastic cells they may serve as indicators of viral etiology.
