Initial Clinical Experience with Vinglycinate Sulfate, a Molecular Modification of Vinblastine

James G. Armstrong, Richard W. Dyke, Paul J. Fouts, James J. Hawthorne, Christian J. Jansen, Jr. and Alan M. Peabody

Lilly Laboratory for Clinical Research, Marion County General Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana

Vinglycinate sulfate (VGL), a derivative of vinblastine, has been employed in the treatment of 31 patients with malignant disease. Beneficial responses occurred in Hodgkin's disease, lymphosarcoma, bronchogenic carcinoma, and chondrosarcoma. Clinical evidence of lack of cross-resistance between VGL and both vinblastine sulfate and vincristine sulfate was encountered. Leukopenia was the dose-limiting toxicity. The dosage of VGL which produced benefit was approximately 10 times that of vinblastine.
