Human leukocytes from allegedly healthy subjects and from patients with leukemia and Hodgkin's disease were measured on the Coulter counter and size distribution plotter before and after exposure to a variety of anticoagulants. Cell loss of healthy leukocytes was observed after exposure to heparin but not to potassium ethylenediaminetetraacetate and other calciumbinding anticoagulants. This loss did not occur in the blood of patients with leukemia and with Hodgkin's disease.
