A program in chemotherapy is descibed, which is based on the purposeful exploration of enzymes and metabolic pathways by means of antimetabolites. This program has led to the development of drugs for leukemia, gout and hyperuricemia, protozoal and bacterial infections, and autoimmune diseases and the control of immune responses in transplantation.
