A Comparison of Electron Density and Hepatocarcinogenic Activity for Various Derivatives of 4-Dimethylaminoazobenzene

The overall basicity for a series of 4'-alkyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzenes and for a series of prime-dimethyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzenes has been resolved into pK_am and pK_az, which represent the pK_a of the two basic centers. The electror densities at the two basic centers were compared with the hepatocarcinogenic activity, and the results indicate a relationship between the electron density at the amino nitrogen and hepatocarcinogenic activity. The results are also consistent with the theory of appropriate electron densities at the amino and azo groups.
