Escherichia coli L-asparaginase significantly prolonged the median survival time of skin grafts in H-2- and H-Y-incompatible mice and promoted the outgrowth of L1210 leukemia allografts in the C57BL/6 strain, its effectiveness being in these systems comparable to or even higher than that of azathioprine. The immunodepressive effect was decreased neither by heat inactivation nor by simultaneous administration of L-asparagine.
