Induction of T Antigen, New Surface Antigen, and Transplantation Immunity by a Nontumorigenic Variant of Type 3 Bovine Adenovirus1

Yoko Nishibe, Yoshiko Nakamura and Y. Kanda Inoue

Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan

T antigen and new surface antigen in infected porcine kidney stable cells were induced with a nontumorigenic variant (WB-PS) with an antigenic alteration. WB-PS variant has been isolated from the wild type strain of type 3 bovine adenovirus in procine kidney stable cells. The WB-PS variant multiplied in hamster embryonic cells but a tumorigenic clone BA of type 3 bovine adenovirus did not multiply in the hamster embryonic cells. WB-PS variant also induced transplantation immunity in hamsters against tumor cells transformed by type 3 bovine adenovirus.

1 This investigation was supported by Grant DRG-890 from the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund for Cancer Research and by the Ministry of Education, Japan.
