"Exogenous" RNA was found to improve the life-span of C3H/HeJ mice challenged by a syngeneic tumor when given after the tumor challenge and preceded by immunization with irradiated tumor cells. The RNA was ineffective by itself when given before, between, or after live tumor challenge not preceded by immunization. It was partially effective when given with the immunizing dose or before the live tumor challenge preceded by immunization.
It is hypothesized that antigen recognition occurred with irradiated tumor administration; following live tumor challenge, RNA administration favorably influenced the immunological system of the host, enabling an improved host defense against this syngeneic tumor.
