Four renal adenocarcinomas induced in the rat by the administration of a single injection of dimethylnitrosamine were examined with the electron microscope. The outstanding features displayed by both poorly and well-differentiated cells were the constant presence of brush border structures. hypertrophied nucleoli, and hypertrophied Golgi. Brush border was not limited to free cell borders and was often seen as an intracellular inclusion. The characteristics of renal adenocarcinoma reveal constant identity with the proximal convoluted tubule.
