Morphological evidence is given for the propagation of Herpesvirus saimiri in human cells of strain WI-38 and in African green monkey kidney cells. The maturation of the virions is described in owl monkey kidney cells infected with virus rescued from African green monkey kidney or WI-38 cell cultures. Although belonging to the herpes group, the mode of Herpesvirus saimiri completion inside the nucleus reveals unique characteristics. The distinct cell association of this virus is at least partly due to the confinement of the mature virions to the nuclei of the infected cells.
