Augmented Immunogenicity of Tumor Cell Homogenates Infected with Influenza Virus

Charles W. Boone and Kenneth Blackman

Cell Biology Section, Viral Biology Branch, National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland 20014 [C. W. B.], and Meloy Laboratories, Springfield, Virginia 05156 [K. B.]

Cell-free homogenates of SV40 tumor cells, in contrast to X-irradiated or formalin-fixed cells, do not induce immunity in BALB/c mice against challenge with the same tumor cells. However, if the cells are first infected with influenza virus, homogenates then induce a high degree of immunity.
