A single dose of ellipticine administered p.o. or i.p. is markedly active against i.p. mouse leukemia L1210. The physiological distribution of ellipticine was studied in mice after this agent had been administered, in solution and as a suspension, p.o. and i.p. The presence of ellipticine in tissues was determined by a sensitive photometric method, with a lower limit of 0.5 µg of drug per g of tissue. The drug is widely distributed, concentrations in tissues being dependent on route of administration. The highest and lowest tissue levels of ellipticine are observed after its administration i.p. in solution and suspension, respectively. The major portion of excreted ellipticine is present in the feces; only trace amounts are present in urine.
