-Naphthoflavone activates the aryl hydroxymethyl synthetase of both the microsomal membrane-bound and soluble enzymes of rat liver and rat lung. The enzyme catalyzes the hydroxymethylation of benzo(
)pyrene to the 6-hydroxymethyl derivative.
