
About the Cover
Jeon and colleagues characterized peritoneal lymphatic vessels in advanced ovarian cancer (OVCA) mice, a model generated by implantation of human OVCA cells into athymic nude mice. At 14 days after the implantation of OVCA cells [OVCA (14d)], the mice displayed formation of gigantic mesh-like lymphatic sheets in the central tendon region of diaphragm. However, these newly formed lymphatic vessels were nonfunctional in draining peritoneal fluid. VEGF ligands from CD11b+ macrophages are responsible for this dysfunctional lymphangiogenesis. In comparison, the mice treated with control PBS (Control ) displayed a rare distribution of lymphatic vessels.
