1. AACR's Mission

The AACR's mission is to accelerate the prevention and cure of cancer through research, education, and communication. Founded in 1907, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is a professional society of more than 24,000 laboratory and clinical scientists engaged in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research in the United States and over 60 other countries. Its principal activities include:

  1. The publication of six major peer-reviewed scientific journals (Cancer Research; Clinical Cancer Research; Molecular Cancer Therapeutics; Molecular Cancer Research; Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention; Cancer Prevention Research).

  2. Holding an Annual Meeting that attracts more than 16,000 participants who share new and significant discoveries in the cancer field.

  3. Organizing AACR's special conferences throughout the year, focusing on all the important areas of basic, translational, and clinical cancer research.

  4. Organizing educational programs for scientists through summer educational workshops and other activities.

2. Our Commitment to the DC Principles

The American Association for Cancer Research helped develop and strongly supports the Washington DC Principles for Free Access to Science. These principles emphasize the traditional commitment of not-for-profit publishers to worldwide dissemination of science, within the context of proven and realistic publishing models, and support experimentation with new models.

3. Free Archive Information

The AACR Journals website allows free access to all journal abstracts upon publication and to the full text of articles 1 year after publication. AACR Journal back issues extend to 1998 or 1999, and loading of a complete archive is complete.

The AACR also participates in the HINARI Access to Research Initiative which provides free or discounted access to the full text of the journals to institutions in developing countries.

4. Pay-Per-View Access

All AACR Journals offer pay-per-view access to any current article.

Users without a subscription have access to journal search functions, the Tables of Contents, articles more than 1 year old, and the journal abstracts at no cost and without having to register.

Two pay-per-view options are available for users who are not subscribers but would like temporary access to full-text articles.

Pay-per-view: $35.00 for access to a single article for 24 hours.
Pay-per-admission: $50.00 for access to an entire journal site for 24 hours.

To purchase access, follow the links under pay-per-view on the Sign-In page. This page will appear when you try to access a full-text article.

How we structure our fees:

We have two basic tiers of site license fees, depending on whether your institution is a for-profit or a not-for-profit entity. Various factors are taken into account for a license fee.

These include:

  1. Number of full-time employees
  2. Number of likely users
  3. Number of campuses/sites
  4. Current usage (if any)
  5. Whether your institution has a cancer center
  6. Your Carnegie classification if you are an academic institution
  7. Number of AACR members working at your location(s)

Reviewing your Usage:

If there is any aspect of the site license policy that may need to be modified to fit the needs of your organization, please contact us.
