about Institutional Subscriptions

1. My institution has a subscription to Cancer Research, but I'm not able to see the full text of articles. I'm prompted for a username and password. Why is this happening?

   When this happens, the IP address for your machine is not being recognized by our computer. This failure is caused by one of three things:

   Your institutional subscription has not yet been activated by your librarian.

   The person who activated the online subscription did not enter in all of the necessary IP addresses for your institutional library.

   You are trying to access the journals from an unauthorized computer outside of the library. This requires an institution-wide site license.

   What should I do?

   1. Send us Feedback so we can begin to diagnose the problem.
   2. Talk to your librarian, and let them know you are having trouble.

2. My library subscribes to the print version of Cancer Research, but I can't get access to it online. Why?

   Your institution has not yet activated its institutional subscription to Cancer Research. All institutional subscribers to the print journal also receive access to the online journal at their institutional library. Notify your library that you would like access to Cancer Research, and encourage your librarian to activate the online subscription.

3. Who from my institution can access Cancer Research?

   The subscription fee allows for Internet Access at the site of your institutional library only. Any user connecting from an authorized computer in the library will be allowed access to Cancer Research.

4. What is an Institution?

   Institutions with a print subscription are authorized to have access to the online journals at one site at their institution. This ‘site’ is most commonly the library or a research building where scientists go to access information. This site does not include any other buildings, offices or the network of the institution. In order to have network, remote or institution-wide access, the institution must purchase a site license prior to activating their online subscription.

   

5. How will this work?

   When someone attempts to use Cancer Research Online, our server checks to see if the requesting computer is within the list of internet IP addresses provided by the subscribing institution’s library. If it is, the reader will be able to use all those services enabled for institutional readers. For institutional subscribers within their library, there are no usernames or password to remember, and there is currently no limit on the number of readers from your institution who may access AACR Journals simultaneously, as long as they do so from within the library site. If readers want to access AACR Journals Online from computers that are not at the site of your institutional library [e.g- from their office, dorm-room, or dial up service from a remote location] they can do so only through an individual Member or Non-Member subscription, or with an institution-wide site license.

   Member Subscribers have access to:

   Tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, future tables of contents, and the advantage of having password access to from any computer connected to the Internet.

7. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed to Cancer Research Online?

   If your institution has a subscription to the print version, you'll automatically have access to the tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full text display, PDFs, Medline and GenBank links, and future tables of contents. You will also see a button at the top of the page confirming that you are signed in as part of an institution.

   If your institution has not subscribed, or if you wish to take advantage of the additional services available to individual subscribers, you can choose to access Cancer Research with an individual Member or Non-Member subscription.

8. Can my institution subscribe only to the electronic version?

   No, at the present time, the electronic version is provided to subscribers of the print journal of the as an added benefit. Libraries can choose not to receive the print journal, but there is no change in the price of the subscription.

9. Will we still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

   Yes, institutions and individuals will be able to receive the print version for the foreseeable future. At some time, the AACR might offer separate subscriptions for the electronic and paper versions.

10. If our subscription to Cancer Research expires and at some later date we reinstate our subscription, will we have access to all years of the electronic version?

    Yes, when you buy a subscription to Cancer Research, you have access to all years of the database.

11. How can I access Cancer Research Online if I am not an member and I don't have access through an institutional subscription?

    You may purchase an Individual Non-Member subscription, or you may wish to apply for AACR membership. In addition, you will be able to obtain temporary access to selected article(s) through pay-per-view. Without a subscription you have access to the Table of Contents, abstracts, and full text searching (but not full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.
